Housing and Politics a Heady Mix?

I have always been interested in housing especially Social Housing, I was born in a Council House in Harraby Carlisle and understand the importance of Social Housing on a national level. I am a Socialist and proud to say so. My Politic allegiance is to the Labour Party and the Labour Representation Committee. My heroes include Michael Foot and Tony Benn.
I live in Leurbost on the Isle of Lewis with my partner Kim-Marie and my children Rachel and Joshua. Joshua is profoundly autistic and a typical teenager. Rachel is a Socialist and equalities champion, my other two grown up children live away.

Local Campaigns
Through the Western Isles Forum I am running a number of campaigns details of which can be found under the campaigns tab above. They include a healthy eating in Barra campaign and various housing and poverty related items. We have recently run a campaign highlighting the Scottish Social Housing Charter by sending out questionnaires to all Western Isles tenants. We work very closely with Hebridean Housing Partnership. I am a serving member of their Board of Management.
Tenant Representation.
The tenants movement has always been a strong movement both politically and socially. Its importance as a pressure group should not be under estimated. As well as being active in the movement locally I am a member of the Regional and National tenant committees in Scotland. I have served as chair of the regional committee and as a member of the National Committee for the past four years.
I am a member of the Scottish Governments Housing Policy Advisory Group at the Scottish Parliament, and have chaired many meetings there.
